Janemba (ジャネンバ , Janenba ) is the master adversary in Dragon Ball Z: Fusion Reborn, and he appears in several other Dragon Ball media. He is a powerful demon and the living definition of evil.[6]
Concept and Creation
Janemba's original advent
Janemba's name is likely a pun on "Je n'aime pas," which ways "I don't similar" in French. Spelled 邪念波, Janemba means "Evil Thought Wave".
Janemba'south original coloration was meant to be purple and white with red eyes. Interestingly, Janemba'due south appearance when transformed by Fourth dimension Breaker magic in Xenoverse 2 appears similar to this original pattern.
Janemba may be somewhat based off a Rakshasa, every bit his sword is sometimes referred to as Rakshasa's Claw (羅刹爪 , Rasetsusō ).
Janemba was originally going to have a mini Goku and mini Vegeta perform fusion into Skinny Veku.[7]
Appearance
In the form he took past possessing the Saike Demon, Janemba appears as a behemothic xanthous obese monster. He has 4 holes on his belly that he uses to shoot his ki blasts and two holes on his shoulders. His legs and forearms are colored as a boring-majestic. His center sclera are white, and his eye irises and pupils are blackness. Being are completely rounded. He also has a large tail, and two stubby toes.
Black Janemba
Equally Super Janemba he becomes smaller and homo-sized. He gains yellow eye sclera, upper armor color being tedious-purple and his skin tone and tail is bright red. He also gains ii irksome-purple curved horns on his caput while gaining dull-majestic wrist-lets, pelvic armor, and talocrural joint supports. Interestingly, the skull cap and horns of Super Janemba are very like to the Frieza Race Head/Hair Type 16 option for the Futurity Warrior suggesting Super Janemba'due south skullcap, horns, and perhaps his tail are traits he caused due to the influence of the evil from deceased members of the Frieza Race such as Frieza, Libation, King Cold, and/or their antecedent Chilled potentially contained within the Soul Cleansing Machine (particularly Frieza and King Common cold every bit they are among the most evil of the Frieza Association due to their mutation co-ordinate to Xenoverse 2). His pointy ears are a trait relatively common among Demons, the Makyan henchmen of Garlic Jr., certain members of the Slug-jin, and demonic Namekians such equally Tambourine and Lord Slug.
Every bit Black Janemba, his form resembles Super Janemba, though his armor is now black and gains more spikes on on his shoulders and dark red lines on the sides of his face and body.
Personality
Like many Dragon Ball villains, Janemba is a destructive and aggressive monster who seems to have little motivation other than sadistic pleasance and lust for anarchy. In his first form, he appears more childlike and innocent but becomes much less so in his 2nd one.
He is capable of using his power to change the reality to his liking, with no regard for how information technology affects others, showing an obsessive demand to command. If someone insults his magic it becomes slightly weaker for a while and cracks, proving that his powers are deeply connected with his emotional country and that he is easily offended, which can be used during battle to unbalance him for a brusk fourth dimension period.

- Statements past authors and guidebooks
Super Janemba was defeated by Super Saiyan Gogeta, whose ability level is said to be two,500,000,000 in a 2004 Five-Jump.
According to the Toei website for the Dragon Ball movies, Super Janemba is stronger than the Genmajin Hirudegarn, since Hirudegarn was capable of trading blows evenly with Super Saiyan 3 Goku while Super Janemba could crush dorsum Super Saiyan iii Goku. It notes that due to this Janemba was the strongest of the original thirteen movie villains, with Hirudegarn being the 2nd strongest.[10] [xi]
It was stated by Takao Koyama, that when making Dragon Brawl movies was that the adjacent picture show villain that Goku fought would e'er have to be at to the lowest degree stronger than the previous villain Goku fought. Thus, he unsaid that Janemba was stronger than Broly but weaker than Hirudegarn. However, this was conflicted with the DVD official website for Toei noted above.
- Video games
The story of Dragon Ball Z: Shin Budokai has it that Janemba'due south power level is based on the amount of evil free energy he has absorbed, as the likes of Pikkon and Super Saiyan Goku can agree their own confronting Super Janemba at the commencement of the game, simply by the stop Janemba is able to fight an virtually even lucifer with Gogeta/Vegito and is able to accept downwards Kid Buu. In Dragon Brawl Xenoverse ii, his Supervillain grade hands thrashed Trunks: Xeno off-screen and Chronoa was shocked that the Time Breakers could become him on their side noting that him joining the Time Breakers was bad as she knows full well nigh his history and the danger of his ability to manipulate reality. Trunks: Xeno is able to recover and tries to rejoin the fight but Chronoa and Elder Kai convince him to return to heal his injuries and due to the fact Vegeta is nearby thus he cannot stay, and his injuries were severe plenty that after returning to the Fourth dimension Nest he was rendered unconscious from burnout and needed time to balance upward. Elder Kai notes that it does not bode well for the Future Warrior as fighting Janemba•Supervillain alone will not piece of work. Subsequently that, Janemba•Supervillain was able to have on both Vegeta (in his base of operations course) and the 2nd Future Warrior simultaneously. Withal, the Warrior manages to weaken Janemba•Supervillain enough for Vegeta (still in his base class) to finish Janemba off with a Terminal Flash. This implies that while he is strong enough to fight both second Futurity Warrior and base Vegeta, he was non strong plenty to defeat both of them. This means he is weaker than Child Buu•Supervillain whom both Vegeta (still in his base of operations grade) and the Future Warrior could only hold off long plenty to buy time for Goku to complete the Super Spirit Bomb.

Trivia
- The dubbed version makes a large distinction between the character's two forms, calling the kickoff class "Janempa" and the second form "Janemba." In the closing credits of the movie, Janempa and Janemba are listed equally different characters, as they are voiced by different actors. The original Japanese dub makes no such distinction, using the proper noun Janemba for the 2 forms.
- Janemba is very like to Majin Buu. They both start out as overweight beings who are limited in intelligence and somewhen transform into a physically fit and stronger grade.
- In Super Janemba's ending in Dragon Brawl Z: Shin Budokai's arcade mode, he and Kid Buu are shown to be able to understand each other's words, and they even become friends.
- In Xenoverse 2, Janemba and Kid Buu besides go friends in the parallel timeline featured in Parallel Quest 57: "Hell is a Picture?" where they end upward turning hell into their playground, only to be confronted by Gogeta and the Future Warrior.
- In Dragon Brawl Fusions, Kid Buu and Super Janemba are allies and can fifty-fifty perform EX-Fusion to create Janembu indicating they have practiced analogousness due to their shared dear of devastation and violence.
- Ironically, their counterparts Xeno Majin Buu and Xeno Janemba do not become forth equally Demon God Buu absorbs Xeno Janemba, all the same Xeno Majin Buu's absorption of Demon God Dabura may accept effected Xeno Majin Buu'due south personality as Demon God Buu causing him to seek to absorb Xeno Janemba'due south power.
- Additionally, Janemba shares Broly's love of destruction and fighting. Both Broly and Janemba squad upwardly in the opening of Budokai Tenkaichi three and work for the Time Breakers to cause trouble in Age 774 in Xenoverse 2.
- In Xenoverse 2, Chronoa is shown to be fully aware of Janemba's history which is non surprising given the threat possessed past his power to dispense dimensions and reality (as the Supreme Kai of Fourth dimension governs over both space and time). Nonetheless, she is shocked and horrified to learn that Towa and Mira had managed to put him under their control.
- As part of the one.xv.00 Update DLC in Xenoverse 2, Janemba'south armored sections can be color customized to brand him resemble his Black Janemba form from Super Dragon Ball Heroes.
- In the Budokai Tenkaichi series, Janemba is the just character to have a base behemothic course, then transforming into a regular sized character and losing health when transforming.
- When encountering Dabura in Shin Budokai - Another Road, Dabura states that Super Janemba resembles the Master of the Demon Earth.
Masked King of Destruction Babe Janemba
- Toyotarō drew a what-if form of Janemba named "Masked King of Destruction Baby Janemba", having information technology equally a warrior who was taken over by Janemba, who was infected past Babe and and then placed under listen command by Towa and Babidi.[15]
- In the Funimation dub, Kent Williams' Janemba voice is like to his Dr. Gero voice. Nevertheless, in afterward media, he made him sound more demonic.
- The Japanese dub likewise had a phonation change. In the movie, Janemba's voice was deep like in the Funimation dub, only in later media, information technology's loftier like Child Buu'southward voice.
- In Xenoverse ii, Janemba is i of the 2 film villains which does not serve as a mentor to the Future Warrior. The other is Android 13.
- In many ways, Janemba is a direct contrast to Majin Buu and specifically Kid Buu. Though there are many complementary aspects betwixt them (subversive, using magic, having malleable regenerative bodies, love destruction and fighting, etc.) at that place are besides potent opposing characteristics. Kid Buu was an aboriginal brute and more of a natural disaster that simply broke, killed, and destroyed things. Janemba uses eldritch ability to warp and take command of reality while being able to shape matter and create things from seemingly nothing (he created a mirror version of Goku to reflect the existent Goku's Kamehameha) while existence literally composed of evil. Kid Buu is naught more than impulse and merely seeks out strong fighters to "play with him"(I.Due east. a long exciting battle) while Janemba seeks to dominate others and show his superiority while taking sadistic glee in toying with them (he slowly and deliberately stalked and hunted down Goku and Vegeta when they tried to hide from him). Ultimately, Buu is more a force of destruction while Janemba is more than of a force of cosmos/domination.
- His weakness to insults is like to that of the Metalman race introduced in Dragon Ball Super. However in Janemba's example, insults can inflict physical impairment upon him equally his body (and his altered reality constructs) are literally weak to insults, while in the case of Metalman, information technology is more than of a mental handicap/weakness.
- Additionally, while Janemba takes concrete impairment, as shown by his fight with Pikkon, he is able to regenerate and is not equally easily incapacitated by insults every bit Metalman are (as they mentally lose the will to fight upon hearing someone insult them, while Janemba can continue to fight by utilizing his abilities to mitigate the damage they inflict).
- However in Dragon Ball Legends, as shown by Gotenks and Zahha, Janemba's regeneration can exist overcome, with Zahha creating illusions of Super Saiyan three Gotenks that join the real 1 in delivering a barrage of insults. However information technology should exist noted that Zahha was the truthful Mastermind behind the Tournament of Time and the one manipulating Janemba via Dark Ki (thus information technology may have played a cistron in Janemba's defeat).
- Janemba is the third master movie villain to accept a weakness, subsequently Bio-Broly (as the Culture Fluid composing him solidifies when exposed to table salt water), and Lord Slug'southward weakness to whistling (which Lord Slug establishes is due to Namekian's ears causing them to feel hurting when someone whistles, which is made worse in their Groovy Namekian & Super Giant Forms due the size increase).
- Still similar Janemba's ability to mitigate insult harm via regeneration, Piccolo demonstrated that a Namekian could reduce their sensitivity to whistling by fierce off their ears which reduces their hearing so that whistling doesn't effect them (and is a perfectly feasible tactic for Namekians equally they can regenerate their ears to restore their sense of hearing to normal).
